Leslie Street Spit, Toronto

Leslie Street Spit is open to the public on weekends, and is a beautifully quiet, out-of-the-way location right here in the city. Years of landfill from Toronto's building sites have built this spit of land into the near shore of Lake Ontario. The man-made fill is gradually becoming naturalized and is now home to almost 400 species of plants, along with a fairly diverse population of wildlife that includes birds, reptiles, mammals and butterflies.
